About the Event

The Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil is organizing the seminar “Alternatives for the Development of Infrastructure and Access to Broadband”. Its aims are to gather international experiences  and  discuss strategies that are conducive to promoting the democratization of broadband access in Brazil.,
This event takes place as part of a national mobilization effort jointly undertaken by the Brazilian government, the private sector and  civil society that recognizes the importance of free communication access as a means  of fostering :
· diffusion of cultural knowledge  in all its forms;
· promotion ofeducational programs;
· promotion of public health polices;
· modernization of banking services (including credit);
· insertion of working age populations in  labor markets
· development of production technologies
· increase of political participation;
· collaborative  knowledge-building and independent media, and
· stimulation of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Conceived with the goal of  feeding into the national policy-making agenda, this seminar will cover the following topics: strategies for universal access; technology and radio frequency options for broadband access; limits and opportunities for state intervention; small and medium-sized enterprises, innovative business models and low-cost technologies; successful experiences of universal access and cost-benefit analyses of regulatory policies.
